The BBC has an interesting article on whether the Apple iPhone should be allowed to be unlocked by consumers, to enable them to use it on another network. Currently, in the US, it can only be used on AT&T, and in the UK O2 will be the only network you can use the phone on.
If i was to buy an iPhone, and i’m not in the market for one, then the phone is mine, and i should be allowed to do with it what i want. If i buy any other electrical equipment, i can do to it what i like, it may void any warranty, but that’s my issue. Surely this should be the same?
Apple are in no place to call this illegal, and frankly, Apple shouldn’t even be interested in this. They may have AT&T & O2 complaining to them about it but maybe they should have just let the phone be available on all networks, instead of one per country?
Just a thought.
