Image via Wikipediasince i’ve started using Zementa, i’ve been receiveing huge amounts of Spam comments. I’m pretty certain that’s because i’m linking to more sites, rather than it being anything to do with Zementa itself, but it is a bit worrying. Still, none of them go live on the site, so not to worry about, but considering i’m only really using this site as something to do to get some practice with sites on the web at the moment, it’s seems a waste of spammer’s time. Thought that, it would seem, is the whole point.

Spammers don’t really care about the performance since their bots do all of their work.
There is something else in play here maybe. Because of your increased linking and recent google updates, your page got higher ranking within search engine that affected the will of spammers to try and get a good comment through.
Most of the blog comments today are spam, so your best bet is to use tools like akismet or defensio and just let the statistical tools deal with most of them.
